==History==
The community of Ellamore began in 1902 after the Moore-Keppel Lumber Company bought about 29,640 acres of spruce, hemlock, and poplar timber in the region and established a band sawmill along the Middle Fork River. The community that grew around the sawmill was named for Ella, wife of Moore-Keppel's co-founder John B. Moore. Some 22 miles of railroad track were laid in the area to extract the 100,000 board feet of lumber that could be produced by the sawmill each day.
In 1917, Moore-Keppel formed a coal division, the Three Forks Coal Company, which operated a mine near Cassity, West Virginia that also utilized the logging railroad as a means to haul coal. The sawmill closed in 1946 due to the exhaustion of timber, although the railroad continued to be used by the coal mines until the late 1960s.
